A fire broke out in a lorry located in an industrial area of Klein-Mechelen in Bornem (Antwerp province) on Friday morning, according to the local fire brigade.
Due to the large billows of smoke coming from the fire, emergency services advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed via a BE-Alert message.
Two people sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for observation.
After the fire was reported, it was feared that a cargo of batteries might also catch fire. However, by around 11:30, local authorities reported that the fire on the lorry and its cargo was under control, although it was not completely extinguished.
Smoke was still present, so residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut and to turn off ventilation systems temporarily.
