Former N-VA leader Johan Van den Driessche passed away in his sleep on Sunday at the age of 71, the House of Entertainment announced in a statement.

Van den Driessche was elected to the Brussels city council in 2012, two years before entering the Brussels parliament as N-VA’s leader. He stepped down from politics in November 2018, announcing his retirement the following year. His portfolio includes spells as managing partner at tax firm KPMG, among other executive roles at high-profile institutions.

He also released two novels, the first, titled ”Ooit”, in 2021, and the second, ”Een geur van zonsverbijstering”, in 2023.

Johan leaves five children from his first marriage with Viviane Cipers and one child with his current wife Rozemarijn Van Hoe.
