Flemish Interior Minister Hilde Crevits (CD&V) is opposed to federal language tests for job applications within Flemish administrations.
The procedure is currently framed by a federal law that determines who must take a Dutch language exam.
The exam is organised by the Policy and Support Ministry (BOSA), but the Flemish authority is unable to define the necessary tests or the required competency level. According to Crevits, this law results in some absurd situations.
For instance, a candidate applying for a position requiring a master's degree must take a language test if their highest degree was obtained in another language. This means that someone who completed their bachelor's degree in Dutch and their additional master's degree in English must still take a Dutch language test.
Minister Crevits plans to discuss the issue with the Federal Government to establish a more flexible Flemish system.
