Marc Gauthier, Mayor of Tenneville for 32 years, passed away on the night of Sunday to Monday due to heart complications, current Mayor Nicolas Charlier confirmed.

Gauthier joined the Tenneville Municipal Council in 1983 and became mayor in 1986, serving until 2018. His tenure saw significant involvement in the Tenneville Crossing Project, earning subsidies after 20 years of effort. “Without Marc Gauthier, the N4 would still be a four-band road crossing Tenneville. He dedicated all his energy to this,” Charlier remarked.

Gauthier was praised for his social sensitivity and availability, heavily investing in the communal water distribution network and developing youth infrastructure, including a sports centre.

After losing to Nicolas Charlier in the 2018 municipal elections, Gauthier remained on the council as deputy mayor, retiring in 2023. “Our communal services often sought his advice, especially in matters of water and agriculture. He was, in a way, the memory of the commune,” Charlier added.

Despite retiring from the council, Gauthier remained active in the community, serving as president of the Parc Naturel des Deux Ourthes and as a board member of various non-profits.

“Our foremost thoughts go to his wife and their two children,” his successor said.
