The public prosecutor’s office of East Flanders has requested that Guinea extradite a former Flemish lawyer.

According to the daily newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the extradition request is related to the investigation into the murder of a real estate agent from Audenarde.

The ex-lawyer from Ghent, Alexandre S. (aged 52), has previously been sentenced to 30 months in prison by the Ghent Court of Appeal and has since left the legal profession.

Het Nieuwsblad reports that he fled to Guinea when he was supposed to return to Ruiselede prison in September 2023 after being granted leave.

The prosecutor’s office has confirmed that it requested Alexandre S.’s extradition to Guinea in connection with the investigation into the death of the 42-year-old real estate agent, who died suddenly on 25 November 2019. His family filed a complaint three months after his death.

The prosecutor’s office has declined to provide further information.
