More than thirty countries are willing to contribute to a "coalition of the willing" to help Ukraine.
This was stated by the spokesperson for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday, as reported by British media, including the BBC and The Guardian.
However, London maintains that American support is necessary for such a coalition.
Not all the countries in the coalition will provide troops. Some will offer equipment or other forms of support, according to spokesperson Dave Pares. Each country will provide "different capabilities."
"It will be a large force, with many countries providing troops and a larger group contributing in other ways," Pares said. "We expect more than thirty countries to be involved."
The coalition of the willing is a plan led by France and the United Kingdom. The operational details are yet to be finalised. Starmer’s spokesperson emphasised that he believes a US security guarantee is essential to ensure peace.
Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated on Saturday during a European meeting that Belgium is willing to participate in such a coalition.
For Russia, any peacekeeping troops in Ukraine are unacceptable. Last week, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that European countries could become directly involved in armed conflict.
