One person has been injured in a shooting in front of the town hall in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht on Monday evening, said the Brussels Fire Brigade and Anderlecht Mayor Fabrice Cumps (PS).
"The Brussels Fire Brigade intervened at around 18:00 for a gunshot wound on the Place du Conseil," Brussels Fire Brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw told Belga News Agency. It is not clear whether the victim's life is in danger. The news was later confirmed by the Mayor of Anderlecht, Fabrice Cumps.
At around the same time, another person was injured in a stabbing on Rue du Chapeau in Anderlecht – just one street away from where the shooting took place.
At this time, neither the Brussels Fire Brigade nor the municipality can confirm whether there is a link between the two incidents.
"The security system worked, and the police were on the scene within two minutes," said Anderlecht spokesperson Melissa Morales Magri. "No arrests have been made at this time."
