Three out of three Belgian entries won prizes on Saturday evening during the closing ceremony of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The Cannes Film Festival ‘Grand Prix’, which is the second most prestigious award in the festival after the Palme d’Or was awarded to “Close” by 31-year-old Belgian film director Lukas Dhont and “Stars At Noon” by Claire Denis from France.
With “Close”, the young Belgian film prodigy conveys a message about friendship, loyalty and responsibility. The movie features the story about best friends Léo and Rémi, both 13 years old, until an unthinkable event separates them.
Another prize was awarded to Belgian brothers and film-maker duo Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for “Tori and Lokita”, which will be distributed later this year in Belgium.
Another Belgian movie, “Les Huit Montagnes”, by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, also won an award. The movie explores the links that unite two friends, one from the city and the other from the mountains.
