In Brussels, the 141st Midi Fair was officially opened on Saturday afternoon. From today until 21 August, anyone can enjoy dozens of attractions on the Avenue du Midi.

For the past two years, the fair has had to be held in a minor way due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but this year it can again take place in normal conditions, between the Arts and Metier Institute and the Porte de Hal.

"The return of the Midi Fair is the best proof that life in Brussels is picking up again," Brussels Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Economic Affairs Fabian Maingain told Bruzz.

Visitors can expect three new attractions: the 'Techno Power' is a rotating attraction with 12 gondolas of two seats each, on four rotating arms, the X-Treme has one central rotating arm with six cars, and the Pirate Party is a large swing in the shape of a boat.

Improving the public space

Chef Sophie Dumont and actress Virginie Hocq are this year's godmothers and ambassadors of the Midi Fair, which also pays tribute to Toots Thielemans. The giant 'Toots', for example, walked along in the parade that opened the fair on Saturday.

On the occasion of the fair, the City of Brussels, public transport company STIB and hub.brussels are organising a number of actions to improve the public space in which the Midi Fair takes place and the image of the neighbourhood.

For example, two large photos by Brussels artist Marie-Françoise will be exhibited on the walls of the railway bridge on Avenue du Midi. "It is good to be able to experience the Fair again in normal circumstances, with all the folklore that goes with it," said Maingain.
