The Brussels region will be the largest car-free zone in Europe on Sunday due to the event 'Car free Sunday'. The event will take place from 09:30 till 19:00 this evening, with the region closed to traffic in this timeframe.
The event marks a high point for Mobility Week which encourages people to try different modes of transport and making Brussels a child-friendly city.
Only non- car modes of transport will be available on Sunday, which means that pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers and scooters will have carte blanche to frolic on the streets of the 19 Brussels municipalities throughout the day.
Only public transport, emergency and security services as well as taxis will be allowed to travel in Brussels with a car.

Any cars on the road must drive with a speed limit of 30 km/h.

Heritage Day
Heritage Day coincides with car-free Sunday. It is an event that has been hosted in Belgium every year since 1989, attracting thousands of visitors as numerous sites and monuments, usually closed to the public, open up their doors for citizens to learn about their heritage.
This year's theme is Belgium's relationship to colonisation and links forged with the Congo since the 19th century. More information here.
