The management of K. Beerschot VA, a football team from Antwerp who play in Belgium's second division, have reacted by condemning in an open letter the racist chants made by its fans during the team's trip on Saturday night to RWD Molenbeek.
“Beerschot deplores the chants against RWD Molenbeek (RWDM) supporters and urges our fans to refrain from such chants,” stated the letter by the second division club, who also announced they will be organising a consultation with its supporters.
Several other incidents have involved Beerschot supporters in the recent past. The club wanted to take a new path this season. But on Saturday, things went wrong again against RWDM.
“In this story, there is no place for racism and discrimination. Beerschot, therefore, deplores the chants against RWDM supporters and urges our fans to refrain from such chants.”
