Inflation in the euro zone reached 10.6% in October, the European statistics office Eurostat said on Thursday. A flash estimate at the end of last month had put it at 10.7%.
Inflation in the 19 countries with the single currency is already high and continues to reach new records. In September, consumer prices were up by 9.9% year-on-year.
As in previous months, it was energy prices in particular (+41.5%) that drove up inflation. Food, alcohol and tobacco prices also rose strongly (+13.1%).
In the European Union as a whole, inflation reached 11.5% last month, compared to 10.9% in September.
According to Eurostat, inflation in Belgium was 13.1%.
The European service uses a different method of calculation from that of Belgian statistical office Statbel, which estimated inflation at 12.27% last month, the highest level since June 1975.
