Two individuals were detained on Tuesday after law enforcers from the Tournai police zone searched a house and yard in Calonne, Antoing District, and discovered a cannabis plantation.

The case has been referred to the Federal Judicial Police.

At around 7.30am on Tuesday, three police vehicles raided an uninhabited house under renovation located at the junction of Rue de l’Yser and Rue Albert 1er in Calonne. The police had targeted the house after receiving a tip that people of foreign origin were occupying a building undergoing renovation.

On arriving at the building, the police officers found two individuals, who admitted to maintaining a cannabis plantation located in the outbuildings. Both were arrested.

The Tournai-Mons forensic laboratory was sent to the house to carry out further investigations, while the civil protection services were deployed to dismantle the installations.

Electricity supplier Ores was called in to secure the electricity network, which had been illegally diverted to supply the cannabis plantation .
