Prague university shooting: At least 10 dead, assailant 'neutralised'

An armed man carried out a shooting spree in a university building in central Prague on Thursday afternoon, with local media reporting several fatalities and numerous injuries. Police have confirmed that the assailant has been 'neutralised', with some reporting that the man committed suicide.

“The shooter has been stopped!” the police on X, formerly Twitter. Emergency response teams are evacuating the building, with several reported dead and dozens injured.

Reports in the Czech media say the shooting occurred at Charles University in the Faculty of Philosophy. Teachers and students were instructed to take cover as police responded to the incident. Images have emerged of students taking shelter on the roof.

Private television network Nova TV revealed details of an explosion and a gunman on the roof of the central Prague building.

Interior Minister Vit Rakusan confirmed to public television that there were no additional shooters involved and urged citizens to follow the police’s instructions.

Police have closed down the area, instructing nearby residents to stay indoors. The exact number of casualties remains unclear, with different media reporting varying numbers.
