According to an Ipsos survey on the online shopping behaviour of Belgians, nine out of ten who completed the questionnaire shop on the internet with seven out of ten of them revealing that they shop on the same three stores each time, RTBF reports.

The survey, conducted among 2,000 Belgians on behalf of trade federation Comeos, shows that the Belgian online consumer is quite unadventurous.

"Once satisfied with a certain site, customers no longer seek to compare with other online stores,” Comeos states in its report.

The survey also revealed that a third of respondents interrupt their purchase when they are forced to create an account and 71% even expect to be rewarded when they take this step, by being granted a discount or savings points.

The RTBF article states that one in two respondents say they usually shop online through a platform, such as bol.com or Amazon.

When it comes to acquiring a product they don't buy regularly, a quarter of the individuals surveyed start their search in a physical store, 23% start by opening a web browser, 15% first consult a platform and 11% go to the virtual store of a business.

Finally, the survey shows that Belgian consumers appreciate home delivery.

Of those questioned, 61% chose home delivery for their last online purchase and only 12% opted for a pick-up point. Payment by Bancontact remains the most used payment option (58%) but 39% of those surveyed opt for PayPal, the same percentage of shoppers who pay with a credit card.
