A stand-off between workers and management continues at the Audi Brussels factory, a trade union source revealed.

"The factory gates are closed, and the workers have no intention of building cars today," said Dominique Bray, lead CNE delegate. Workers are feeling betrayed, and seeking strong action from management.

Unions hope today’s dialogue meeting at SPF Employment will kick-start genuine discussions to secure prompt wage payment, halted by the company since Monday. Bray warns if the workforce receives no guarantees or compensation, the situation could worsen and urges management to act responsibly, putting money on the table.

The possibility of a takeover by an Asian investor which was floated as an idea recently, generated little enthusiasm for the trade unionist.

"The only Asian investor who’s visited the factory lacks the means to invest. With their poor financial record, we hold no hope on that front."

Tensions continue to rise at Audi, with workers halting production last week following the announcement of a stop on new model assembly. In addition, unions confiscated keys to 200 new cars.

Management countered by closing the factory and threatening workers with legal action. Yesterday, the unions returned the keys. "As far as we’re concerned, this incident is over," said management.
