Walloon arms manufacturer FN Browning Group has entered into exclusive negotiations with a view to acquiring French group Sofisport, world leader in the manufacture of hunting and sporting cartridges, the Herstal-based company announced on Friday.

Based in Paris, Sofisport employs 1,000 people at fifteen sites in France, Italy, Spain, the UK and Canada.

The two groups share "a similar industrial culture, based on local ecosystems and cutting-edge know-how," Julien Compère, CEO of FN Browning Group, emphasised. "Against a backdrop of consolidation in the sector, the acquisition would strengthen the competitiveness, growth and local industrial base of each of the companies and their subsidiaries."

The two companies emphasise the complementary nature of their products. The FN Browning Group does not produce ammunition for hunting and light shooting, so this acquisition would complement its offering.
