Ten years on, the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo commemorated the 2015 terror attack at its offices in Paris on Tuesday.

The ceremony was held in front of the former offices in Paris of the satirical publication, which declared itself "unstoppable" on the cover of a new special issue in tribute to the attacks. The attack took place on Rue Nicolas-Appert in the 11th arrondissement and claimed 11 people's lives, all staff members of Charlie Hebdo.

On Tuesday, at the exact hour of the attack, survivors of the editorial team, families of the victims, and numerous public figures gathered in the late morning for a wreath-laying ceremony. The names of the victims were read aloud in the neighbourhood, which was secured by police.

President Emmanuel Macron, former President François Hollande, who was in office at the time, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Prime Minister François Bayrou, and several current and former government officials attended the ceremonies.

From 7 to 9 January, 2015, brothers Chérif and Saïd Kouachi and Amedy Coulibaly targeted Charlie Hebdo, law enforcement, and the Jewish community in "coordinated" attacks claimed by two distinct groups, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and the Islamic State (IS).

Twelve people, including eight members of Charlie Hebdo’s editorial team, were killed in the attack by the Kouachi brothers, French nationals of Algerian descent who had pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda.

After a two-day manhunt, the brothers were killed by the GIGN, an elite gendarmerie unit, in a printing house in Dammartin-en-Goële (Seine-et-Marne), where they had taken refuge.

Additionally, two police officers in Paris and Montrouge, and four Jewish individuals in a kosher market at Porte de Vincennes, were also killed during these three days of terror.
