Six people were seriously injured and three others sustained minor injuries in an accident involving a wrong-way driver on Thursday.
The accident occurred at around 19:00 on Thursday evening in Wervik (West Flanders). A vehicle with three occupants drove in the wrong direction on an exit at the N58/A19 intersection in Wervik and collided head-on with a van carrying nine people.
"Six ambulances, two intervention teams from the Arro Ypres police zone, and an emergency medical vehicle were dispatched to the scene," the West Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office reported.
The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman from Menen, as well as the two passengers in her car, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
In the other vehicle, three occupants were seriously injured, and three others sustained minor injuries. They were also transported to the hospital for treatment.
No traffic expert was appointed as the circumstances of the accident are clear.
