Building on the success of previous editions, the Brussels Porn Film Festival (BxlPFF) is returning to the Belgian capital for a fourth edition at the start of May.

This unique festival highlights alternative narratives and representations in pornography through a programme that questions and rethinks dominant norms, while providing a space for cultural mediation and critical dialogue.

"Pornography, a genre consumed on a massive scale worldwide, has always been at the heart of passionate debates," the organisers of the festival said.

Sometimes mocked or condemned for its role in the construction of erotic desires and imaginations, pornography is frequently criticised for "reproducing the structural flaws of our societies – sexism, racism, fatphobia, ableism – and accused of exerting a negative influence on behaviour."

Arousing interest

By using this medium, the festival aims to transform the way people think by reimagining the way sexuality is portrayed on screen. "The Brussels Porn Film Festival positions itself as a response to critiques of dominant sexual norms, creating a space where images of pleasure, diversity and respect challenge normative narratives."

More than a simple celebration of sexuality, the event invites people to reinvent their collective imaginations and open up a dialogue around norms of desire, gender equality and sexuality.

This year, the festival features seven short films in the international competition and one screening in the national competition. Screenings will take place in three independent Brussels cinemas (Galeries, Nova and Aventure), as well as at dance club Madame Moustache, from 1 to 4 May.

A jury of leading figures from both traditional and pornographic cinema will select the winning films at the closing night screening at Cinema Nova.
