Local police in the Antwerp’s Ekeren district have seized 30 birds during the inspection of a suspicious light truck.

Seven Bulgarians, who claimed to be hobbyists, were transferring the birds from boxes and cages to another vehicle. According to the police, the animals were kept in poor conditions.

The police transported the birds to a local bird-rescue centre. Unfortunately, one of the birds did not survive the transport.

The police also notified the inspection services of the Agency for Nature and Forests and filed an official report against the transporters.
