A monkey caused a widespread power outage in Sri Lanka.

According to Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, the animal entered a substation of the electricity network in a southern suburb of Colombo and made contact with a transformer.

“This caused an imbalance in the system,” said the minister.

The outage occurred on Sunday morning.

Several hours later, electricity had not yet been restored in all parts of the country.

It is unclear how long the disruption will last.
