A wolf was spotted on Sunday morning in a residential area near Kapellen and Brasschaat, communities neighbouring Antwerp.

A video, recorded by a father and his son from their car, was shared by the organisation Welkom Wolf, clearly showing the animal. The exact location was not disclosed to protect the wolf’s safety.

Welkom Wolf reported that sightings like this become more frequent on weekends and public holidays. During weekdays, wolves feel safe in natural areas, but their peace is often disturbed on weekends by hikers, horse riders, cyclists, or hunters.

The organisation explained that the wolf, in search of cover and rest, may run through areas it usually avoids during the day. At these times, it is not seeking food but trying to find safety.

Welkom Wolf also stressed that wolves are not dangerous to humans. “The wolf in the video wants just one thing: to get away from people,” they said.

It is believed that the wolf in question is Emma, a female wolf that has been in the region since March 2023. There is currently no evidence of other animals in the area, and no recent reports of wandering wolves have been made.
