The introduction of the tram service in Liège has been delayed once again, with a new expected start date of 28 April, according to the Walloon public transport company TEC.
TEC announced on Tuesday that several crucial technical issues have arisen since trial operations began on 11 February.
The company stated these issues must be resolved to ensure the service operates safely and efficiently. The start date needs to be postponed by a few days to address these technical problems, TEC emphasised.
However, the company assured the public that “within a month, this major project will become a reality and significantly change mobility in Liège.”
The commercial launch of the Liège tram was initially scheduled for 31 January 2025, later postponed to 15 April 2025, and is now set for 28 April 2025.
TEC’s Marketing Director and spokesperson Stéphane Thiery noted that on this date, the TEC network in Liège will transition to a new bus-tram system centred around the tram service. He added that the current bus network will remain unchanged in the meantime.
