Supermarket chain Delhaize has taken some lamb merguez trays from its shelves due to an incorrect expiry date, it announced in a statement on Saturday.
The notice affects Delhaize’s 100% Celtic lamb merguez sausages that were sold between on 5 and 7 April 2022. Some of these products may have been stamped with an 11 May 2022 expiry date whereas the correct date is 11 April 2022, the company said.
Delhaize has asked its customers to pay special attention to expiry dates and not to consume the product after 11 April.
“The other products of the same range are not concerned and can thus be consumed in all safety,” the supermarket chain stressed, expressing its apologies for any inconvenience caused. All other packages have been taken from store shelves.
Together with Belgium's Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV), Delhaize has also recalled 13 Kinder products in light of products being linked to hundreds of Salmonella outbreaks in Belgium and Europe.

Delhaize stressed that none of the products sold in its stores tested positive for salmonella and that it had not received complaints from consumers, but that it still "took the matter very seriously for consumer safety."
