Port pilots represented by the socialist ACOD/CGSP union began a protest action on Thursday evening against the federal government’s pension plans.
Shortly before 9 p.m., there were already 15 ships waiting for pilots, the Agency for Maritime and Coastal Services, MDK, reported.
“At staff meetings on Wednesday and Thursday, reactions were very strong regarding the impact of the plans on pilots,” said ACOD's Eddy Hendryckx.
Hendricks, who described ACOD/CGSP as the union with the strongest following among port pilots, said he expected work to be completely halted over the next few days.
Only ACOD/CGSP is participating in the action that began on Thursday evening. He expects the others to join the general strike set for 31 March.
