Police intercept an e-scooter driver travelling at 99 km/h

Local police in the area surrounding Vilvoorde and Machelen (Flemish Brabant) intercepted someone on an electric scooter reaching speeds of 99 km/h on Tuesday.

The speed limit for this type of vehicle is 25 km/h.

The local police cycle patrol was overtaken on Tuesday by an electric scooter travelling at high speed, the police explained. The person ignored the order to stop but was intercepted a little later.

"During a check at the police station, a maximum speed of 99 km/h was measured," police officers say. "It is not only dangerous for the driver but also for other road users," they stressed, pointing out that the maximum speed allowed for this type of machine is 25 km/h.
