Around 40 occupants of a squat on Rue de la Loi will be housed in a hotel at the expense of the Atenor real estate agency, owner of the building.
Atenor will pay a monthly sum of €30,000 for four months.
The roughly 100 occupants of the squat were forced out of the building by a judge some time ago, after Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Nicole De Moor and the federal asylum agency Fedasil were held responsible for the use of the building.
As of Friday morning, the police may evict any squatters from the premises.
The building’s owner will pay for temporary accommodation for 40 occupants in a Brussels hotel. According to Atenor, a census of the building’s occupants was carried out a few days ago, and at that time they numbered 40.
As information circulated, however, more people returned to the building. On Thursday, around 70 occupants were present on the premises, which created tensions. A bus was due to collect the original 40 at around 12:30, but due to the discontent of those who were to be left behind, there was a delay.
At around 2.00 pm, the 40 occupants concerned boarded the bus bound for the hotel.
In a statement to the press, the real estate company said that it had long been seeking solutions with the collective.
