Muntpunt, the Dutch-language library in Brussels, was the victim of a cyberattack on Sunday night, the library reported on its website on Thursday.
The library had already announced on Monday that it was experiencing "technical problems with its network," but at the time there was no mention of a cyberattack.
On Thursday, the library said that there had been no data breach and that no personal data or devices were at risk. "We are monitoring the situation closely with an internal crisis team and the guidance of Digitaal Vlaanderen," it said.
Due to the cyber attack, it has not been possible to use Muntpunt's Wi-Fi network since Monday. The computers in the study hall or De Grid will be unavailable until at least the end of March, and the catalogue PCs are also not working. Printing and scanning are not possible, and only online payment is possible.
The building is open, however, and visitors can come to read, study or relax. Borrowing and returning books is possible, and the scheduled activities will go ahead as planned. The library can also be reached by email and telephone.
