Workers from Actiris nurseries, supported by the joint union front (CGSLB, CNE, SETCa), will gather in front of the Brussels Regional Employment Office headquarters from 08:00 on Wednesday to protest the proposed 2025 budget cuts.
The unions describe the situation as "alarming and unacceptable," stressing that these essential services are at risk due to budget reductions.
Actiris nurseries consist of five childcare centres staffed by nursery nurses, reception staff, cooks, and cleaners. These nurseries are crucial for job seekers by providing a stable and inclusive environment for their children, thereby helping numerous families build better futures.
The unions argue that the proposed budget cuts would lead to immediate and severe consequences, including job losses, reduced childcare places, and further instability for already vulnerable families. They warn this would be an unacceptable social setback, making it impossible for staff to continue their vital work under such conditions.
The joint union front believes alternative solutions are feasible. They urge swift action to protect these critical services, opposing austerity measures and calling for a change in direction.
