A personal secretary has been arrested for the murder of the wife of Chris Delaney, Goodyear's Middle East, Africa and Europe President.

Carmel D., the 61-year-old victim, was stabbed to death during a burglary at her home in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre on 17 March.

Last Friday, her husband's personal secretary was arrested as part of the murder investigation. Police raided her home in Steenokkerzeel (Flemish Brabant), where she lives with her husband.

According to Het Nieuwsblad and a source close to the investigation, the 54-year-old suspect is identified as GV. She has worked for the tire manufacturer Goodyear for over ten years. Chris Delaney has been EMEA President since 2017.

The suspect appeared before an investigative judge on Saturday. On Monday, the Public Prosecutor confirmed that she had been arrested for murder and carrying a weapon with intent.

Targeted burglary

CCTV from 17 March shows the victim arriving to her home on Avenue Roger Vandendriessche at around 20:00.

She was met by a masked man, who reportedly threatened her to gain entry, stabbed her four times inside the apartment and fled with three valuable watches worth tens of thousands of euros and jewellery.

The theft of the watches indicates that the burglary was targeted and not random.

Sources told Het Nieuwsblad that Carmel D. was the first person to contact the emergency services after the incident. Her boss had called her when he discovered his wife's body. Emergency services then contacted him.

Carmel D. was repatriated to the United States, her country of origin, and was buried there last Wednesday.
