Ukrainian air defences downed several drones during a Russian attack on the capital Kyiv overnight on Saturday.

It was the 11th time this month that Russia has attacked the capital city. Two apartment buildings, cars and roads were damaged in the attack, authorities in Kyiv reported Saturday morning.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced that a total of 18 Iranian-made “kamikaze drones” were shot down in the Kyiv region.

According to the latest information provided, 20 drones were destroyed across the country.

“Last night, the aggressor carried out another large-scale drone attack,” said the head of Kyiv’s military administration, Serhiy Popko. All drones were shot down and debilitated, according to him.

No casualties were reported. Falling debris from a drone caused a fire in a home, which was extinguished, while windows in other homes were shattered.

Ukrainian commentators said the Russian military leadership first tried to destroy the country’s energy infrastructure and is now seeking to prevent the capital’s residents from sleeping with constant nightly attacks.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for nearly 15 months. It has repeatedly praised the efficiency of defence systems provided by Western allies.
