Ecolo and Groen political parties have decided to campaign jointly in Ixelles for the local elections on 13 October under the banner of the 'Ecolo-Groen Mayor’s List.'
Ixelles Mayor Christos Doulkeridi and his first alderwoman Audrey Lhoest will occupy the top two spots of this slate, which has a total of 43 candidates. Aldermen Yves Rouyet and Anaïs Camus will take the third and fourth places.
The top Flemish candidate on the list is Wolf Rysbrack (Groen), who will take the fifth slot.
The two parties are to publish their manifesto soon.
Mayor Doulkeridis hopes to retain his post for another six years. He describes his first term as dominated by “exceptional local challenges and responses,” notably the Covid-19 pandemic and an energy crisis caused by the Ukraine war.
Ixelles' environmentalists maintain that despite these successive crises, there has been a strong commitment towards systematically greening public spaces, improving road safety, providing free basic services, and managing heritage.
Ecolo and Groen previously joined forces for the 2018 communal elections, resulting in a ‘green wave’ throughout Ixelles, which was previously governed by the Mouvement Réformateur party. Ecolo secured 33% of the votes, improving on its 2012 result by 9.5%.
