The VRT programme "De rugzak" has been nominated for prestigious television awards at the American New York Festival and the Canadian Rockie Awards, Geronimo Entertainment announced on Saturday.
The results of whether the programme wins will be revealed on 22 May and 9 June, respectively.
In "De rugzak," eight famous Flemish people climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The show, internationally known as ‘The Backpack of Life,’ is a finalist at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards and the Rockie Awards at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada.
In New York, "De rugzak" competes in the ‘Family Programs’ category, against four other programmes. In Canada, it is nominated for a Rockie Award in the Reality Series category, also competing against four other titles.
Last year, the Play4 programme Boris won a Rockie Award in the ‘Docuseries’ category. The fictional series "Van vlees en bloed" and "Call Boys" won Rockie Awards in 2010 and 2017, respectively.
