A bomb disposal unit (DOVO), police and the fire brigade were called to the headquarters of the military union ACMP-CGPM on Tuesday over a suspicious package which later turned out to contain confetti.
Employees of the union had reported a suspicious package, Zaventem local police informed.
The report reached the local police around 14:00, who went to the scene together with the Fire Brigade and DOVO. A safety zone was also set up as a precaution. In the end, it turned out to be harmless confetti.
Yves Huwart, spokesperson for ACMP-CGPM, said the organisation had acted correctly. After having been discovered, the package was immediately isolated.
According to him, the military union has been receiving letters with questionable content for months, making employees "wary", and believed that, in this case, it was not a prank. The police have opened an investigation.
