The value of Bitcoin exceeded the $100,000 threshold for the first time in history on Thursday.
While it is prone to volatile market surges and routs, the world’s largest cryptocurrency went up in recent weeks following Donald Trump's election as President of the United States.
Around 03:36 Belgian time, a bitcoin was trading for $100,102 (approximately €94,961).
The cryptocurrency went up during the Asian trading day. It occurred shortly after US President-elect Donald Trump nominated Republican lawyer and cryptocurrency lobbyist Paul Atkins to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
It sends a signal that his incoming administration will take a friendlier approach to bitcoin.
