The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded near a Trump hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday has been identified as Matthew Livelsberger.

Livelsberger, who had rented the vehicle, was the only person killed in the explosion.

Bystanders sustained minor injuries.

The FBI is treating the incident in Las Vegas as a potential terrorist attack.

CNN reported that Livelsberger was a sergeant in the US special forces and was on active duty.

He rented the Cybertruck through Turo, a car rental app also used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the attack perpetrated on the same day in New Orleans attack, and in which at least 14 persons died.

At a press conference regarding the New Orleans attack on Thursday, the FBI stated that no direct link between the two incidents had been established.

They emphasised that the investigation was still in its early stages, and nothing had been ruled out.
