The entire workforce of the distribution centres in the province of Liège went on strike on Monday, according to the French-speaking postal union CSC Transcom.
The labour dispute at Bpost in the south of the country is continuing, with ongoing strikes ongoing for over a week. Unions and staff disagree with a reorganisation of the existing postal routes.
Sorting centres in Brussels, Charleroi, and Liège were blocked by picket lines. These pickets were removed on Sunday, with bailiffs assisting in Wallonia.
The use of bailiffs has not been well received by the workers. Consequently, staff at the Liège distribution centres went on strike on Monday, as did employees in other parts of Wallonia and Brussels.
A Bpost spokesperson stated that 40% of postal routes in Wallonia were carried out on Monday.
A meeting is scheduled for Monday afternoon between the postal unions and Minister of Public Enterprises Vanessa Matz. Further discussions with management are planned for Tuesday.
