An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft has burst into flames after landing at Denver International Airport, in the US state of Colorado, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced.
The airport announced on X that all passengers had been evacuated from the flight. Images posted to social media showed passengers leaving the aircraft from overwing exits and emergency slides. 12 passengers were taken to hospital for minor injuries.
The flight, which was travelling from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Dallas, Texas, was rerouted to Denver after the flight crew heard "vibrations" coming from the engines of the aircraft.
"After the landing and while taxiing to the gate an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated the aircraft using the slides," the FAA said in a statement. The aviation authority says it will launch an investigation into the incident.
The incident is the latest in a series of high-profile aviation accidents in the US this year. On 29 January, a US Army helicopter collided with an incoming American Airlines passenger jet in Washington DC, causing both to plunge into the Potomac River. The accident killed all 67 people on board.
