A driver going the wrong way was killed after he collided with a lorry on the E314 motorway, near exit 27 towards the Zolder racing circuit on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 01:30 in the morning, when the wrong-way driver crashed into a truck on the E314 in the direction of Leuven. Both vehicles caught fire after the collision. The noise barrier along the motorway was also damaged by the fire.
Initially, the motorway was closed in both directions, but lanes heading towards the Netherlands reopened to traffic by 03:30.
The E314 in the direction of Leuven remains temporarily closed. As of 7:30 am, traffic was backed up for eight kilometres, causing delays of over an hour, according to the Flemish Traffic Centre (Vlaams Verkeerscentrum). Disruptions are expected to continue until the truck is removed.
