The National Crisis Center (NCCN) has announced that the BE-Alert emergency system will be tested in a record 225 Belgian municipalities on Thursday.
The NCCN said in a press release on Tuesday that the testing will be extended to nearly half of the municipalities that already use the system.
Local, provincial, and federal authorities can use the system to alert residents in an emergency, which might be a power outage, polluted drinking water, or a fire.

There are already 1,093,897 addresses registered with the system, who will receive a text message, phone call, or e-mail on Thursday.
Furthermore, the NCCN claimed that these tests provide an excellent chance to practise the system's effectiveness during a crisis, adding that "it is critical that every resident is registered to BE-Alert."
