Five people, all illegally residing in Belgium, were arrested early on Sunday morning in relation to the attempted murder of a man in front of a café on Rue du Commerce in Charleroi, Wallonia, the local prosecutor’s office said on Sunday morning.
Police in Charleroi were called, at around midnight, to a bar on the Rue du Commerce where five individuals had been refused access by a bouncer. The five men became violent and violently attacked a man shortly after.
“The (man) had just arrived at the scene, with a friend. The five individuals, who had just been refused entrance by the bouncer, returned to the scene a few moments later to take revenge, with three iron bars and a wooden stick. They chose the wrong target and attacked the victim,” the Charleroi prosecutor’s office announced.
The five men will be put on trial for attempted murder and illegally residing within the country. “The friend, who accompanied the victim, was nearby at the time of the attack and was able to call the police. When the police officers arrived on the scene, the five people were arrested and still had the iron bars in their hands,” the prosecutor added.
