Brussels launches new call for projects supporting women in business

The Brussels government on Thursday launched the second edition of its call for  projects under its ‘Women in business’ initiative.

It has set aside a budget of €500,000 over one year to support private structures that implement support projects for businesswomen and aspiring female entrepreneurs.

According to the latest hub.brussels barometre of female entrepreneurship, the number of self-employed women has been increasing constantly in the Brussels Region (+30% in 10 years). However, there are still 2.5 times as many men as women registered as self-employed in Brussels.

Selected applicants will be required to choose between setting up support programmes for aspiring female entrepreneurs, and mentoring, mutual aid or coaching programmes, activities and events.

According to the secretaries of State for Economic Transition Barbara Trachte (Ecolo) and Equal Opportunities, Nawal Ben Hamou (PS), the budget for each project will range from €35,000 to €100,000.

The projects will be selected by a jury according to criteria such as the quality of the proposed support and the suitability of the target group with the inclusion objective of the call for projects.
