The Arc de Triomphe in Cinquantenaire Park has been renovated as part of a project costing around €27.7 million.
The Régie des Bâtiments (Belgium's federal property manager) announced that it had completed the renovation of two terraces of the Arch on Thursday.
Both terraces are wooden and stand on either side of the bronze quadriga topping the Arc de Triomphe. Both were removed and renewed, as were the lead roof covering and the balustrades.
"These offer a splendid view of Brussels," the Régie said. One of the terraces is near the Art and History Museum and is once again open to the public. Both can be accessed via the Army Museum, which is open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday.
Museum works completed
The Régie has spent three years renovating the roofs of the Art and History Museum, followed by the roofs of Autoworld and the skylights of the Military Museum.
This section of renovations is now complete, but works on Cinquantenaire Park itself are ongoing. Multiple façades still need to be restored, such as the one on Aviation Hall at the Military Museum and Bordiau Hall at Autoworld.
The project's overall cost is estimated at €27.7 million.
