The A12 motorway has been reopened to traffic following a serious accident between Antwerp and Brussels at around 5.45 am this morning. A pedestrian was knocked down while attempting to cross the motorway and died on the spot, according to federal police. The highway was completely blocked following the incident, and only opened again just after 8 am. The accident occurred at the junction of the A12 and Helststraat, at the centre of Aartselaar in the province of Antwerp.
Detours via the E19 are no longer necessary, although there is still a considerable traffic jam reported in the area.
