The Royal Crypt at the Notre-Dame de Laeken church in Brussels will be exceptionally opened to the public on Monday to mark the anniversary of the former Belgian King Baudouin's death, the Royal Palace announced.
King Badouin died at the age of 62 as a result of a heart attack, almost 30 years ago. King Badouin is remembered as the last King to be sovereign of the Congo, for his strong religious convictions and for his altruism.
In memory of his death, the Royal Crypt will be briefly opened from 14:00 until 17:00 to allow guests to visit his grave and pay their respects. The Royal Crypt is also home to the bodies of King Leopold I, his wife Louise of Orléans, King Albert I, and King Leopold III, among others.
The Notre-Dame de Laeken church can be found between the Domaine Royal and the Parc de Laeken. The crypt will next be open to visitors on 29 August.
