Belgium’s terror alert level remains at 3 (out of 4), according to the Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (OCAM) on Tuesday.

There are no specific threats to the Christmas markets, which are gradually opening as the festive season approaches.

"The level three alert is currently still in effect nationwide," OCAM confirmed. "This level is reasonably high and indicates that a threat is possible and likely."

In addition to general surveillance, the organisation also conducts specific threat analyses for events such as Christmas markets, festivals, and European summits.

"The risk is always present, but we primarily want to encourage the public to enjoy the Christmas markets," OCAM stated. "There is no concrete terrorist threat specifically targeting the Christmas markets that would lead to their closure."
