Orange Belgium's low-cost brand 'Hey!' has announced that it will lower its prices following new competitor Digi's launch.
Romanian company Digi launched its services in Belgium on Wednesday and is the fourth telecom provider to enter the market. Until now, Proximus, Orange and Telenet have dominated the scene, but Digi's "unmatched" offering in terms of affordable package deals was expected to make telecom rates more competitive across the board.
On Thursday, Orange Belgium announced that its low-cost brand Hey! will offer unlimited calls and texts along with 15 GB of mobile data for just €5 per month from 18 December, mirroring Digi's offer.
Its previous best offer was 5 GB of data, 150 minutes of calls, and 500 texts for €7 per month, according to its website.
Hey! has also revised its other plans, all featuring unlimited calls and texts: €9 per month for 25 GB, €14 per month for 50 GB and €25 per month for 160 GB.
At its launch, Digi promised "unseen prices in Belgium" as it continues to build its own 4G/5G network. In the meantime it is "borrowing" antennas from Proximus.
It has already caused Proximus share prices to dip by 7%, reaching their lowest levels of the year at midday on Wednesday.
