Belgium’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Budget, Vincent Van Peteghem, has reached an agreement on the country’s medium-term national budget plan, his office announced on Saturday.
After securing agreement within the federal government, the Consultative Committee has also given its approval, Van Peteghem’s office confirmed.
Earlier this week, the Minister informed the Finance Committee in the House that the federal government would submit its budget programme to the European Commission by the end of this week or, at the latest, by early next week.
Belgium was originally expected to present a multi-year budget plan with necessary reforms to Europe in September. However, lengthy negotiations to form a new federal government prevented this, prompting the Commission to extend the deadline to mid-March.
“This multi-year plan anchors the ambitious reforms included in the government agreement,” Van Peteghem stated.
