A fire has been raging in a private forest in Vielsalm (Luxembourg province) since early afternoon, according to the Wallonia Public Service. Its proximity to railway lines has resulted in the interruption of rail traffic.
According to the infrastructure manager, Infrabel, the disruption affects train traffic between Vielsalm and Trois-Ponts in both directions (Aywaille-Gouvy line).
The police are on the scene to ensure the closure of several roads and a railway siding, says Walloon Ministry spokesperson, Nicolas Yernaux.
An area of two hectares, difficult to access, is affected by the incident. Significant smoke emissions have been observed. The fire brigade is on site.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
